About Dr.Konstantinidis

Dr Konstantinos M. Konstantinidis comes from Karpathos. He graduated from the Elementary School of Arkasa  Karpathos, Venetokleio Junior High School, and High School of Rhodes with honors. He is a graduate of the Medical School of Aristotelian University of Salonica with a national scholarship in every year of study due to excellent performance.


After taking special exams (E.C.F.M.G. and F.L.E.X., in 1981), in which he received the grade “Excellent”, he attained the respective diplomas with which he was accepted receiving a scholarship for the specialty of General Surgery at the Medical School of Ohio State University, U.S.A and Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  During his last year of Residency, he received the honorable title «Chief Resident». Later, in 1988, he was elected Lecturer and in 1989, at the age of 32, he became a Teaching Attending Surgeon of the same Hospital.

In 1989, after taking special examinations he gained the diploma of the American Board of Surgery and renewed the title of this diploma in 1999 after passing the necessary examinations again.



He practiced as Director of the Surgical Clinic of Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he operated and taught General Surgery, Laser Surgery, and Laparoscopic Surgery for many years. At the same time he was responsible for training of the students and residents in General Surgery. In total, he stayed in the U.S. for 12 years.


He possesses a medical license for the U.S, which he renews every two years by attending postgraduate Conferences and Seminars in the U.S.A. He obtained a PhD from the Medical School of Democritus University.

In 1991 he returned to Athens after invitation by the CEO of Athens Medical Center G. Apostolopoulos in order to take over the foundation, establishment and management of the Laparoscopic Surgery and Laser Department, that was established for the first time in Greece that same year.

The department that he established and continues to direct provides Greek and international patients with the latest surgical techniques such as Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Microsurgery (Surgery using a magnified field), Laser and RF Surgery, and latest Robotic Surgery. To date, he has performed more than 10,000 laparoscopic surgical operations. 


He has provided surgeons of other specialties (Gynecologists, Urologists, Thoracic Surgeons) the opportunity to learn the entire range of Minimally Invasive, Laparoscopic, and Robotic Surgery. 
Many Greek and foreign surgeons have been trained on Laparoscopic Surgery by Dr.Konstantinidis.


He spends his free time with his family. His wife Marilena Vlachou is a Teaching Attending Professor at the Pharmaceutical School, University of Athens. He has two children Sofia and Michalis that share his own interests for sports, tennis, traveling, theatre, and anything relating to the ocean. He loves Karpathos and Rhodes; and is always glad to be entertained by their local music and dances. He also enjoys to write and sing to the rhythms of his home-land.
